  You really need to stop blaming yourself here. This situation is not some form of karma (bleh) or retribution for all the horrible the things you imagine you've done. That is pure nonsense.

  We don't all get on with our parents, or even love them very much. That doesn't make you a monster; that makes you a victim of circumstances, nothing more, and although it's a sad situation, I suspect there are many of us reading this thread who are marvelling at your fortitude, whilst knowing all too well that we could never even begin to contemplate possessing your strength and determination.

  New Ex-JW's: Smoking isn't worth it!

  it seems that many jw's take up smoking as soon as they leave the watchtower.

  the reason is obvious -- they weren't allowed to!

  lighting up is like giving the finger to the watchtower.

  Good post!

  I left the JW's at an impressionable 17, and almost the the first 3 things I did were to buy a pint of beer, a packet of condoms and a packet of cigarettes. Of course, it was all a snub at my upbringing.

  We're talkng abour 1975 here, so do any UK members recall a nasty little cigarette brand called Guards?

  I'm a habitual sort of rut-follower, so soon found myself smoking 30 a day (plus cigars in the pub) and stayed that way until my early 30's - first two actions in the morning; reach for my specs so I could see my cigarettes - when out of the blue my smoker wife said that if cig prices rose any further then she'd seriously try to stop.

  I replied that if she stopped then I would stop too, and what's more I wouldn't cave in and start again before she did! So we both stopped dead, and went cold turkey - no placebos, no aids. It was uncomfortable for a week or so, it's true, but I didn't end up chewing the wallpaper or kill anyone!

  That was 17 years ago and, although my wife and I have gone our separate ways, neither of us have felt any inclination to fire up again.

  Anyway, the words wisdom are thus;- stay away from tobacco. It's addictive, makes you smell bad and can kill you.

  i was thinking about the various reasons i come to this site and felt the need to espouse some thoughts.

  i shied away from this site at first for what now seems some rather silly reasons; as if there were things here i didn't need to know, lol.

  but i did and do enjoy the scope of topics here, the intelligence, cameraderie and diverse opinions of the posters here.

  This website has been a mind-saver when I thought I was going to lose it.

  For some it is easy to get out of the WTS but it isn't as easy to get the WTS out of us.

  Over 30 years here Lady Lee, and it's only in the last 9 months or so that I've had to recognise the depth of my own personal issues.

  where we live is a very *new agey*, *earthy* area.

  when i was a witness i never thought twice about my astrological sign or how it relates to anyone else.

  here, people are always asking what my sign is and i've really been entertained by how i see patterns with people in my life and how i've noticed i'm actually attracted to certain *signs* .

  The Sunday Thread!

  i just spent a helluva a long morning in bed even though i was awake early, then did some yoga before breakfast and a piping hot shower.

  now i feel like i still have a whole fabulous day to enjoy doing exactly what i want.. in my other life i used to dread sundays.

  i would read my book to take my mind off the imminent boredom right up until we got to the hall doors and then 2 hours of monotony would follow - the sickening nerves of making myself answer up, often choking mid sentence because i was so nervous, but worse was to come.

  How I hated Sundays as a kid!

  No matter whether the meeting was morning, afternoon or evening, it always messed up the entire day for me. Two hours of utter nonsense, and then the humiliation of going knocking on doors, hoping that I wouldn't meet any kids from my school. That's no way for a kid to live, now is it?

  These days I can please myself exactly what I do, and the current craze is to go and spend a couple of hours helping to restore vintage aircraft at a local aviation museum.

  Yes.

  I was 17. Julia was 21.

  She asked if I would go to bed with her.

  That really was the final straw.
